Forever Together, (from the “Spirit Lovers” series), watercolor, 30″x 22″, framed to 40″x 32″, SOLD
Valentine’s Day is the the 14th of February. It’s the month we especially associate with love. Let’s get into that “love spirit”, in both today’s blog, as well as my blogs throughout the rest of the month.
Whether they admit it or not, most people give great importance to love: romantically, brotherly, and spiritually. My observations show that even the foundation of all -or at least most- religions is a shared belief in the importance of love. Religions appear to have a commonality in: 1.) some form of deity(ies) – something greater than ourselves; 2.) a spirituality/the existence of souls, an afterlife and/or some sense of eternity; and, especially, 3.) a great emphasis on love.
Paintings from my “Spirit Lovers” (sometimes called the “Forever Together” series) are about a deep, spiritually connected love. Once again I’m sharing a particular reminiscence -this time through my blog- hoping to give you more insight into this series.
Many years ago, during an opening reception for one of my solo shows at Adagio Gallery in Palm Springs, co-owner Ann Lewin introduced me to a couple who had driven from Los Angeles to meet me. Recently purchasing a painting from my “Spirit Lovers” series, they wanted to share with me what it meant in their lives. One of them had recently been diagnosed with a terminal illness; soon afterwards, they went to Palm Springs for a get-away trip. That was when they saw “Forever Together“. Buying it immediately, they hung it on their bedroom wall as soon as they returned home. They told me that it was the first thing they looked at together as they awoke each morning, and every night as they lie in bed holding hands, it was the last image they saw before turning off the light.
A part of almost every artist’s statement that I’ve ever written, is “My primary reason for making art is the beautiful aspect of touching others . . . showing them new ways of looking, helping them experience new or forgotten experiences, reminding both myself and the viewer that we have souls, presenting to others their own opportunities for awakenings . . . as I share my personal discoveries and epiphanies through my art.” What an honor and privilege when this happens! What an honor and a privilege when someone shares with me how my artwork touched his/her/their life!
Thanks for sharing so deeply to touch our hearts.
